Popups have become one of the biggest annoyances on the internet today. We see them so often that most people don’t even consider them popups anymore. People have become used to seeing a site with a big ugly white box covering up their content and ads popping up in front of it. Sometimes popups are bad for business, other time it’s necessary for user to resolve certain issues before continue.
Personal experience
Throughout the recent user onboarding, notice one major problem with the popup:

Often the users stop and come back to me and ask what should they do next.
